Pharmaceutical Tablet Press Monitoring and Control System

A tablet press manufacturer’s old software was out of date, and they needed a real-time monitoring and control of presses that manufactured pharmaceutical tablets. PSI was hired to create a system that monitored several phases of the manufacturing process for each tablet and determined the quality and redirection of the tablets during the process. The system consisted of a dynamically configurable embedded Real-Time platform gathering analog and digital information, evaluating each tablet, controlling equipment, directing tablets to various output chutes, sending the information via TCP/IP to a host PC for storage, additional evaluation, and MMI presentation. The PC software collects tablets and performs statistical analysis and applies adjustments to the PLC via OPC to ensure a quality product. It provides long term storage of giga-byte tablet files, recipe management, configuration, playback, and control. The system is utilized in the manufacture of candies, medicines and detonators.
